Can Apple Cider Vinegar Help With Acid Reflux?
Tuesday, May 10th, 2011Acid reflux or GERD is a health condition which, though not life threatening, can severely restrict your lifestyle options. However, apart from being very uncomfortable, if left untreated it can lead ulcers and even esophagus cancer.
Acid reflux condition happens when the esophagus opening which is supposed to close after the food is transferred into the stomach opens involuntarily and allows the stomach acid to flow back upwards. This leads to tremendous discomfort due to irritation and intense burning of the esophageal lining. While an occasional bout of acidity is acceptable, regular recurrences are a cause for worry.
Most people opt to use antacids to counter acidity attacks but these provide temporary alleviation and the best way is to make changes that can provide lasting relief. People using antacids claim that after the dosage wears off, there is a surge in the acid production which leads to even more heartburn. Another issue is that it may not be excess stomach acid which is responsible for this condition because as we age there is a reduction in the production of stomach acid and antacids actually make things worse.
