Is Multiple Sclerosis Curable or Preventable?

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

Multiple sclerosis is interesting to me because I have known several people – friends – who have been afflicted with the disease. I had hoped that research in the subject would reveal to me that progress was being toward finding a cure. Unfortunately, that is only partially true. The Mayo Clinic website that I visited lists MS as an incurable disease, though there are now medicines that will delay its progress.

That is very important because, through watching my friends with it, it is clear that it is a progressive disease and, from all accounts, irreversible. These observations were confirmed by my research. The Mayo website states: “There’s no cure for multiple sclerosis. However, treatments can help modify and slow the course of the disease and treat symptoms.”

What Does It Take To Be An Acupuncturist?

Monday, July 11th, 2011

You may have tried acupuncture in the past for a problem or two and, seeing how lucrative a business this ancient Chinese healing art is, you might even have thought about becoming an acupuncturist yourself.

Acupuncture is not just something that you learn from a manual or in quick two week acupuncture courses. Like doctors and alternative medicine practitioners, you need to get the proper training. Thankfully, since its introduction in the U.S. in the 1970s, many acupuncture schools offer courses on the process and other Chinese healing arts. You simply have to do some research on the availability of schools or training courses in your local area.

What is acupuncture? It is an alternative medicine process that involves the piercing of a very fine needle into certain points of the skin to stimulate and correct the flow of the life force/vital energy of the body known as “Chi”.
